Premier League boss says it was too cold as he defends fans staying at home

We all know that the media treat different Premier League in very different ways.

Imagine if a Newcastle manager came out and explained away a half full St.James’ Park for a Premier League match by saying it was a bit nippy?!!

The club and especially the Newcastle supporters would be ridiculed, you know the thing…fickle fans…soft Geordies…only turn up when they’re winning etc etc

Yet this is what Paul Lambert said when Aston Villa fans left their stadium half full on Monday;

“They (Villa fans) have been great and I have got nothing but compliments for the supporters here. It is a massive football club with massive expectancy levels and it was cold and on Sky.

“People paid their hard earned money and they’re still getting behind you, that is what this team needs.”

Talk about trying to turn a positive into a negative!

Only 25,311 bothered turning up to back their team against Southampton, near the start of the season they had over forty thousand against Arsenal when the team started with ten points out of twelve.

These Paul Lambert quotes are probably new to you because Villa and their fans aren’t subjected to anything like the negative scrutiny and media abuse Newcastle fans are subjected to on a regular basis.

Newcastle fans are accused of being fickle despite packing St.James’ Park with over fifty thousand even after only five Premier League wins in ten months.

You quite literally couldn’t make it up.
