Pardew recommends ‘outstanding’ Steven Taylor for England
Alan Pardew has been talking up Steven Taylor for England, claiming that he is an outstanding centre-back when playing with confidence.
Taylor got an emergency call-up for England twenty months ago when Roy Hodgson had multiple players missing. Taylor and Steven Caulker sat on the bench, while Smalling and Lescott played in an 8-0 demolition of San Marino.
If he did really rate Steven Taylor that highly then you’d have to ask why he only gave him nine Premier League starts all last season. This despite United’s defending being horrific for much of the season, one of the six worst for conceding goals.
“Steven Taylor is an outstanding centre-half when he gets his confidence’
“He is a player that, when he’s confident, can get in the England squad, which he did during my time here.”
You can’t argue with his record;
“The key for Steven is having a sustained run and staying injury free, which he is having at the moment.
“You can’t argue with his record (for Newcastle this season – see HERE).”
Alan Pardew also spoke about Jack Colback and England, praising the midfielder for the job he has done since he arrived at St.James’ Park, but also admitting that he faces a lot of competition for the national team.
“We have got a good batch of central midfield players in the England squad, so Jack has good competition.
“I have got no problems with Roy’s selection, and neither has Jack.”
Simplicity of Colback;
“He is a very simple player to manage and he makes the game simple.
“He’s low maintenance; comes in and does his work, is terrific and goes home…lovely.”
