Papiss Cisse back playing and scoring v Botswana tonight – Video
Papiss Cisse sat out Senegal’s crucial qualifier with Egypt last weekend, not even making an appearance from the substitute’s bench.
The Newcastle striker’s teammates pulled off a surprise away win meaning they had qualified with one match still left to play.
With Alan Pardew saying he was worried about ongoing knee problems for Papiss Cisse after his operation in the summer, it was interesting to see whether Senegal would play him in what was basically a dead match against Botswana on Wednesday night.
Papiss Cisse not only started the match but scored the second goal in a three goal win, a sharp finish (watch it below) after a cross from the right. The result changed nothing in the group with Senegal finishing in second behind Tunisia.
The reports I read only had basic information but it appeared there were no substitutions according to the brief details supplied, meaning Cisse could well have played the full match.
We now await with interest what will happen on Saturday and whether Papiss Cisse will be fit and available to start, with so many other injuries let’s hope he is.
