‘Outstanding’ Newcastle star could be out until March

7 years ago

After finally beginning to make an impact, Gabriel Obertan pulled up with what looked a painful injury during Newcastle’s match with Liverpool on Saturday.

The winger clutched his right thigh and now the local media are reporting that Obertan could have an injury in a similar area to Siem De Jong.

The Dutch midfielder is hoping to be back in January which would mean he’d missed over four months of the season, a similatr length of time out would see Obertan missing until as late as March.

Initial scans are said to have shown serious damage to Obertan’s upper thigh, though further tests will be needed to assess the full extent of the damage.

Alan Pardew is likely now to give Rolando Aarons a decent run in the team, the manager saying after the final whistle against Liverpool;

“Rolando Aarons has returned to fitness at a good time for us. We wouldn’t have had the same impact if we hadn’t had him to replace Gabby’s pace.

“It becomes a one for one really, we still carried the threat. Which is a fantastic tribute to Aarons as he really hasn’t trained much.”

Same threat as Obertan;

“To offer the same threat as Gabby, in the form he’s in, was great for him.

“But it is a blow for us, make no mistake.

“The only big problem we had was losing Gabriel Obertan, he has been outstanding lately, it looks like he’s got a big injury.”
