Official club statement on Ryan Taylor injury
The big story pre-match was the selection of Ryan Taylor in the starting eleven.
The versatile midfielder/defender was chosen to start in the absence of both Cheick Tiote and Mehdi Abied, two of the many injured for Newcastle United.It was over two years since Taylor had started a first team game at St.James’ Park and sadly it wasn’t a story with a happy ending.
Having been responsible for the two efforts that were closest to a goal in the opening half hour, tragedy struck on thirty three minutes.
Seemingly not involved in any challenge, Ryan Taylor sunk to the turf and you knew instantly that it wasn’t good.
The player eventually limping off with tears in his eyes, no doubt joined in that by a number of fans as sadly the writing appears to be on the wall after this second fightback from serious injury.
After the final whistle Newcastle United released the following official statement from Alan Pardew;
“Ryan will be scanned as soon as possible and we’ll know more then.
“The thoughts of myself and all the players are with him.”
Everybody at The Mag would like to add their best wishes to a player who has shown great character to battle back from injury and wear the shirt.
Ironically, Taylor’s American surgeon was a guest at today’s match.
