Newcastle United Renaissance man makes it 5 wins out of 5 this season

He might not be everybody’s cup of tea…but is Steven Taylor the biggest factor in the Newcastle United revival.

While younger players such as Aarrons, Perez and Abeid have grabbed the headlines after eventually getting a proper chance, is it a more ‘mature’ player who really deserves the main plaudits?

United started this season as they finished the last, struggling for goals at one end and perhaps more worryingly, letting them in for fun at the other end.

Before the Leicester match, Newcastle had conceded twelve goals in their previous five Premier League games with no clean sheets.

Injury to Mike Williamson brought in Steven Taylor and the rest is history, so far…

Three Premier League victories have followed with two clean sheets and only one goal conceded to Leicester, Spurs and Liverpool combined.

The only other two matches Taylor has started this season were the League Cup matches against Gillingham and Crystal Palace, making it a pleasantly surprising five wins out of five for the central defender.

That Coloccini/Taylor partnership was the foundation for Newcastle’s successful 2011/12 fifth place finish and could Alan Pardew have accidentally stumbled upon the successful formula again?

It appeared clear in the summer that Newcastle were desperate to unload both Mapou and Steven Taylor but the Geordie defender made clear he wasn’t interested in leaving.

Turning 29 in January, could Steven Taylor have rescued his Newcastle career and at the same time potentially saved Alan Pardew?
