Newcastle striker turned down move to Portugal

Newcastle summer signing Ayoze Perez has revealed that he almost completed a move to Portugal before Newcastle came calling.

The former Tenerife striker has admitted that only ‘small details’ prevented him completing a transfer to FC Porto in the summer window.

However, when Newcastle came calling, Ayoze Perez claims it was an easy decision because United ‘appreciated’ his playing style and ability.

Speaking to Cadena SER which is Spain’s most popular radio network, Perez said;

“I was very close to signing for FC Porto but we couldn’t reach agreement on certain small details.

“I had to look at my situation overall and Newcastle appreciated my game, which therefore helped me decide to come to the Premier League.”

Emmanuel Riviere has shown nothing so far to suggest that he has what it takes for the Premier League.

While the very strange case of loanee Facundo Ferreyra continues, with him not playing one minute of competitive football for Newcastle United in the 78 days since NUFC’s season kicked off.

So the signing dubbed the ‘Spanish waiter’ by some, after being plucked out of the Spanish second tier, has proved to be the most effective striker signing this season so far, scoring consecutive Premier League winners against both Spurs and Liverpool (watch Saturday’s goal HERE).

With two goals (both winners) in only 211 Premier League minutes so far, Ayoze Perez is shaping up to be a real bargain if he keeps this up.
