Newcastle star puts club before country and pays international price

Daryl Janmat pulled out of Holland’s matches with Iceland and Kazakhstan in October and looks to have paid the price for putting club before country.

The Newcastle full-back has played every Premier League match for Newcastle, including the matches either side of that international double header in October.

Gregory Van Der Wiel, a teammate of Cabaye at PSG, played those two matches in Janmaat’s absence, with Holland losing 2-0 to Iceland leaving them with only three points from three group matches.

Guus Hiddink appears to have taken a dim view of Janmaat pulling out of the squad, as he has gone from first team regular to not even making this squad for a friendly with Mexico and Euro qualifier against Latvia.

Newcastle’s best defender this season and arguably the most consistent United player over the first ten Premier League games, Netherlands’ loss is Newcastle United’s gain.

The Czech Republic and Iceland both have three wins out of three and if Holland fail to beat Latvia next Sunday, their hopes of qualification will be in severe danger.

After some of our experiences (who said Michael Owen????) in the past, great to see a Newcastle player like Daryl Janmaat taking seriously his responsibility to the people who pay his wages every week.
