Newcastle midfielder puts club before country
Always good to hear players speaking positively about making Newcastle United their main priority, with playing for their country following on from that, so man of the moment Mehdi Abeid’s latest words definitely fit the bill.
Getting his first senior call-up to the Algerian national squad, the Newcastle midfielder has said that the most important thing is to play for Newcastle.
After having jokers like Michael Owen taking the…Michael in the past and using Newcastle as basically training preparation for England, with the national team always his priority – rather than the people paying his wages.
“It is my first time with the national team and I’m really happy I’ve been called up, it is great for me.
“I just want to stay in the manager’s thinking and grow from there.”
African Cup of Nations;
“Of course, it’s in my mind that I want to go (to the African Cup of Nations finals) but it will depend on the choices the manager makes.
“I have a chance and will try to do my best, the most important thing though is to play for Newcastle, then we will see what will be after that.”
Newcastle first, then the national team;
“I want to impose myself with Newcastle and then think of the national team.
“My first thought is to play a lot of games for Newcastle, things are going well at the moment for me.”
Algeria play Ethiopia on Saturday night with qualification already secured, although exactly where and even when the finals will take place is up in the air, with Morocco no longer hosting and no replacement country named yet.
