Thursday saw Gabriel Obertan go under the knife on the injury he suffered during the win over Liverpool on Saturday.

The Newcastle midfielder has had surgery for a ruptured thigh muscle.

Obertan pulled up sharply in the game holding his right thigh and initial reports suggested that he could have a similar recuperation time to Siem De Jong.

De Jong suffered a similar injury and it’s hoped he will be back in the new year, whilst following surgery on Obertan, estimates of March for his return have been reported and an absence of at least four months.

The French winger had emerged from the wilderness in recent games, starting the last four matches where United picked up ten Premier League points, as well as beating Manchester City to move into the last eight of the League Cup.
