Newcastle fans on their way to West Ham this morning were subject to big travel problems.

Following reports of an explosion at around 3am this morning in the Catterick area, the A1 was closed to all traffic and diversions put in place.

Newcastle United say that they have informed West Ham of the potential for a number of supporters being delayed and are contacting coach operators to try and estimate how many are affected.

A six mile stretch of the road is affected plus both slip roads to Catterick are closed.

In the brief statement below, North Yorkshire Police report that they aren’t aware of any injuries.

Catterick of course is a base for a large military facility and personnel.
