Mehdi Abeid talks about injury blow and Christian Gourcuff speaks highly of him
Algeria manager Christian Gourcuff has said that he’d been impressed with Mehdi Abeid after watching him in training, while confirming he would have made his full international debut if injury hadn’t intervened.
The Newcastle midfielder was hurt in training after a collision with his teammate Belkalem Essaid.
Abeid’s international manager an admirer of the Newcastle midfielder’s ‘technical skills’;
“It is a shame because I had a glimpse of his technical skills in training and I’m confident that his contribution would have done us much good against Ethiopia.”
Mehdi Abeid has broken a toe and was photographed on crutches when watching Algeria’s 3-1 win over Ethiopia.
The Newcastle player using his Facebook page to thank fans for the messages of support and has talked of being ‘out for a couple of weeks’, though press reports suggested at least a month;
“Yes I got injured. Will be out for a couple of weeks after a choc with a teammate in training, I would like to say thanks to all fans who have written with support.
“Disappointed to be heading home. I’m sad to not have honoured my 1st selection for the National Team. Hoping to comeback stronger than ever!”
