Mapou Yanga Mbiwa ‘Now I have found a team that plays real football’
Mapou Yanga Mbiwa was understandably pleased to hear he had been included in Didier Descamps’ squad to face Albania and Sweden.
Mapou joining Newcastle ‘teammate’ Moussa Sissoko in the France squad named earlier today, Yohan Cabaye also included.
Talking to Corriere dello Sport, Mapou Yanga Mbiwa suggested that ‘maybe it was too cloudy’ in Newcastle for him but claims that times are good now with him at a club where the team plays ‘real football’.
“I am very happy with this call-up. It is always a pleasure to be part of the Coach’s (Didier Deschamps’) squad.
“I know that I am here to complete the squad and give my best. If I get the chance to play I would give it everything I have got.
“I had lost myself at Newcastle. Maybe it was too cloudy!
“It wasn’t easy but now I have found a bit of match fitness and a team that plays real football.
“I need to be a little wary after the injury but I’m slowly getting back to my best.”
Mapou Yanga Mbiwa is now a fixture in the AS Roma team and as well as regular football, in his natural position, Mapou and his teammates find themselves still second in Serie A three points off Juventus, while in the Champions League they are favourites to qualify for the knockout stages behind Bayern Munich.
