8 years ago

Newcastle United’s St.James’ Park will be given over to Rugby League’s ‘Magic Weekend’  at the end of this season.

To help spread interest in the sport, this Round 16 of regular season fixtures will see all the Super League clubs appear on Tyneside over the last weekend in May.

Previously hosted in Cardiff and Edinburgh, the last three years have see Man City staging the event but due to stadium development, Newcastle United have stepped in as the latest hosts.

Whatever you think of Rugby League it is great to see St.James’ Park featured and promoted, as well as our great City welcoming thousands of extra visitors. A valuable extra shot in the arm for many local businesses.

The schedule is as follows.

Saturday 30 May

2.30pm Salford v Widnes

4.45pm Hull KR v Hull FC

7pm Wigan v Leeds

Sunday 31 May

1pm Catalan Dragons v Huddersfield

3.15pm St.Helens v Warrington

5.30pm Castleford v Wakefield

Super League general manager Blake Solly;

“Magic Weekend is long established as one of the sport’s most popular events and from the uniformly positive feedback we have received since announcing that it was heading to St James’ Park, it’s clear that Magic Weekend 2015 will be very special indeed.

“And with a comprehensive package of entertainment, both inside and outside the stadium across the whole weekend, I’m sure it will be a truly magical experience for everyone involved.”
