Jonas Gutierrez shock Newcastle return in December
Last night brought the very welcome news that Jonas Gutierrez had been given the all clear after prolonged treatment for testicular cancer.
The largest newspaper in Argentina, Clarin, reporting that before Jonas tweeted this good news to the World, his friends and family had already been aware of it for some days.
However, as well as commenting on the cancer all clear, Clarin also report the welcome but surprising news that Jonas Gutierrez expects to be back at Newcastle in December to resume training, another major step towards returning to competitive football.
However, Jonas did complete the Buenos Aires marathon only three weeks ago to help raise cancer awareness, the Newcastle midfielder pictured looking in good shape compared to what we might have been expecting to see after his cancer battle.
Clarin report that Jonas Gutierrez has been training well in the gym already and that he is now looking to make that next move by returning to England and training with his Newcastle teammates, with December pencilled in for his Tyneside return.
Hopefully Newcastle United will do everything they can to accommodate Jonas when he is ready to make that move, the United winger’s contract running until June next year.
Even if the chances of him making it back into the Newcastle first team are slim, it would be great to see the club and the fans able to play their part in helping Jonas Gutierrez back into professional football.
An uplifting story for football fans and the general public alike, inspiring many more people who fight this terrible disease.
