Jonas Gutierrez crowned ‘Outstanding Sports Personality’ at ceremony in Argentina
Newcastle United’s Jonas Gutierrez has been named ‘Outstanding Sports Personality’ by the Buenos Aires City legislature.
The Argentinian international received the award because of his ‘Successes as a player and also his human values.’ Jonas had Fabricio Coloccini by his side as he received the accolades on this special night.
After receiving his award Jonas said;
“I don’t want to be an example, I am simply trying to help those who are going through a similar situation.
“I do not fear cancer – it’s not a bad word, nor is death.
Important thing is always to look forward;
“It should be positive and be dealt with using great fortitude, the important thing is always to look forward.
“The only bad thing was that it made me lose the hair that I had.”
The Newcastle winger’s mother also spoke at the special ceremony, saying’
“When he was three years old, Jonas had a febrile seizure and was paralyzed on the left side of the body. So then he began to play football on a little pitch.”
