Daryl Janmaat prefers clean sheets to creativity

6 years ago

Daryl Janmaat believes that as a defender, clean sheets are more important than creating goals, such as the two he made at the Hawthorns.

The right-back also says that he was surprised when he was left out of the Dutch squad but believes that if he keeps up his current Newcastle form then he wil get back in.

The Newcastle defender expects a tough game against QPR but says he and his teammates have to win it for the fifty two thousand fans.

Speaking to the club’s official TV channel Daryl Janmaat said;

“I think it is nice to have a rest but we had some good wins and we were in a good mood, but now we’ve also had some rest and now we’re ready for QPR.

“Everybody knows their job now and the team is playing with more confidence.

“The back four are also not conceding so many goals, which is important, but we still need to improve in other areas – such as our passing.”

Taking time to settle;

“If you have a lot of new players them it is normal that it takes time for everybody to get settled. Now you see everybody is settling in and everyone is playing better.”

Clean sheets above creativity;

“It is nice to have two crosses two goals (West Brom), clean sheets though are more important for defenders because they win you games if you get them.”

Dropped by Holland;

“It was a surprise (being left out of the Netherlands squad), last time I was injured, but if I keep playing like this then I will come in (to the Dutch squad).”

Doing it for 52,000 people;

“QPR is a tough game like every Premier League game. It is at home though and for fifty two thousand people we have to win.

“A tough game but we are ready.”
