Daryl Janmaat – How Newcastle are dodging last season’s second half disaster
Daryl Janmaat has compared Newcastle’s recent run to what Holland experienced in the summer World Cup.
The Dutch winning matches which built confidence, largely based on clean sheets.
Likewise Newcastle have bounced back from their early season horror defending which was looking like a disturbing continuation of what happened in the second half of last season. Matches such as the 3-3 at home to Crystal Palace were shambolic at the back especially.
Daryl Janmaat speaking to the Shields Gazette;
“A strong defence has to be the start for every team and I am very satisfied with that side of our game.”
“It was an important match (QPR) and at moments I thought that we played very well – they didn’t really create a chance.”
That winning feeling;
“Sometimes you just seem to get some momentum behind you and then the results roll on and on.
“That is what happened with Holland in the World Cup – we started winning matches and every time we went onto the field, we had a feeling that we would win the game.”
Results give confidence which gives results…
“We had a lot of confidence in ourselves, and that confidence comes from getting positive results and performances.
“That is what happened with Holland, and it is what is happening here at Newcastle, we (Netherlands) were very strong defensively and everything really started from there.”
