Average wages jump to £43,000 a week

7 years ago

An astonishing leap saw Premier League wages jump from an average £1.6m per year in 2012/13, to £2.3m a year in 2013/14.

The incredible £700,000 a year average rise being put down to the similarly giant leap in Premier League broadcasting deals, the cash for which started flowing into clubs last season.

That rise means that your average Premier League player now picks up £43,000 a week – obviously more than most of us earn in a year.

So how does this compare to other countries? The following stats were put together in a recent Daily Mail article;

£2.3m English Premier League

£1.5m Germany

£1.3m Italy

£1.2m Spain

£1.0m France

£0.9m Russia

£0.6m Brazil

£0.5m English Championship

While what the likes of Newcastle’s players receive is mad enough, the riches found in England are maybe best summed up by the average in the Championship, no other country in the world has a second tier anywhere close in strength, crowds and money flowing in.
