Alan Shearer ‘If Aguero scored that we’d be talking about it for weeks’
Alan Shearer believes that Newcastle United may just have unearthed a star of the future in Ayoze Perez.
Speaking on Match of The Day 2, Shearer said that if Sergio Aguero had scored a goal like Perez’ against West Brom ‘We’d be talking about it for weeks’.
Analysing his perfromance, Alan Shearer pointed out that it wasn’t just the outstanding goal that stood out for the Spanish striker, he pointed to the forward’s outstanding workrate and that by worrying the central defenders, he’d scared them into giving him an extra yard or two to work in.
“It helps when you have a young kid up front who seems to be willing to run in behind, to learn the game.
“He made his intention clear early on – he says to the centre-halves ‘I’m going to run in behind you’, and that just creates himself little pockets of space up front because defenders then give him a yard of two that they shouldn’t.”
That goal (Watch it HERE);
“What I like about him is that for the goal, he wants the ball when he makes his first run, it (the ball) didn’t come but his reaction is brilliant for the second run.
“The space is there and he attacks it, it is a piece of great skill and if Aguero scores that we’re talking about it for weeks.”
The benefits of Newcastle’s small squad;
“It is fair to say that if Newcastle had more options up front he’d probably either be on loan or sat on the bench learning the Premier League, but he has taken his chance and shown what he can do, three goals now.”
“As I know more than anyone, if you score goals up there you will be an absolute hero and the fans will love him.”
