Alan Pardew desperately defends himself from Jonas Gutierrez criticism
At today’s pre-QPR press conference, Alan Pardew was forced to come out and defend both the club and himself against criticism from Jonas Gutierrez.
The Newcastle winger has said he intends to return to Tyneside early next month and I wouldn’t mind being a fly on the wall when he meets up again with the United manager.
“It was purely a football decision, those are decisions that have to be made.
“We have supported him and we tried to do what we could when his illness was made known to us, before it was known publicly.
“What he (Jonas Gutierrez) has done is absolutely marvellous, to recover like he has.
“I believe he’s picking up an award. We’re very proud of what he has done. He needs to rest assured it was purely a football decision.”
Below are quotes Jonas Gutierrez gave over in Argentina when he first (September) revealed to the world that he had cancer, similar comments have then been made by the Argentinian international in further interviews, including in the past week in advance of his return to Newcastle
“When the cancer was confirmed I went home crying.
“I came here (to Argentina) and I took care of the costs, despite being contracted to Newcastle. Money isn’t important and what matters is your health, I then had to undergo chemotherapy.
“I underwent the surgery in Argentina and they removed my left testicle.
“I then went back to England and Newcastle told me to leave. I was shocked because I had played consistently for five years.
“It was hard to see my hair falling out, I didn’t want to cut it – I wanted to hold on.
“Fighting cancer makes the rest of the problems insignificant.”
“I decided to tell my story because it might other people who have cancer.”
