Surprise contenders in Newcastle man of the match v Leicester result
The actual winner was never in doubt in our Newcastle man of the match v Leicester result.
Gabriel Obertan easily won the vote with just over three in five fans picking him as the man of the match.
I actually thought he could and maybe should have got an even higher percentage as the winger played pretty well overall and nobody else did much to come close to justifying a man of the match status.
Bit of a surprise maybe with the next few positions, although the person responsible for the flappy screen was on reflection clear second best.
However, surprising to see Steven Taylor getting third, even if it was a distant one, considering how many supporters appear to have a deep-rooted low opinion of the centre-back.
One thing he definitely gives the team is that at least we have two centre-backs who aren’t scared of the ball. Mike Williamson is a grafter but it is a major disadvantage when United have possession and the opposition don’t mark him on purpose as they encourage his teammates to give him the ball, due to his so limited ability with it and tendency to panic.
Can’t really understand the likes of Colback, Gouffran and Sissoko getting any votes, though I did think Krul did OK and made a few decent stops.
While I thought Papiss Cisse worked his socks off and did well despite being isolated as usual up front, I know it was a shocking miss after he’d expertly rounded the keeper but playing the full 90 minutes after two international matches and a late return was a real tribute to the Senegal striker.
