Shocking penalty decision at Man City that almost cost Newcastle – Watch here

Maybe the biggest tribute to Newcastle United on Wednesday night, is that the team triumphed at the Etihad by not only comprehensively beating Man City, but also having to battle against a shockingly biased referee.

Stuart Attwell gave Newcastle absolutely nothing all night, every 50/50 (or even 10/90!!) decisions went the way of the team in blue.

The defining moment though was surely when Gabriel Obertan was put through with United only one goal up.

The winger was clear of the last defender and just as he got into the box, a despairing lunge from Kolarov wipes Obertan out from behind – one of the easiest red card and penalty decisions you will ever see.

However, unbelievably nothing was given and thankfully United went on to get the vital second via Moussa Sissoko (watch it HERE) despite the contributions of referee Attwell.

If this incident had happened at the other end then it is a given that our defender would have been sent off and the scores almost certainly leveled, with City then going on to win the game.
