Second Newcastle United victim of MH17 returns home

John Alder’s family have now moved one step further in dealing with the sad loss of one of Newcastle United’s most recognisable fans.

Along with Liam Sweeney, John (AKA The Undertaker due to wearing a black suit to the match) was one of the 298 victims of the MH17 plane outrage, while en route to watch Newcastle pre-season in New Zealand.

It has now been confirmed that John’s body has been repatriated to the north east.

John Alder’s family, who live in Darlington, have today released this following statement through Durham Police.

“The family of MH17 victim John Alder would like it to be known that John’s body has now been returned to Gateshead and would like to express their gratitude for all the support and good wishes received during this long and difficult period.

“Preparations are now being made for a private funeral service for John’s family and friends later this month.”

A funeral for Liam Sweeney was held in August and we all hope that being able to belatedly have this service for John, will help give some comfort to his friends and family.
