Sad news – Paul Gascoigne sectioned for emergency treatment

More desperately sad news for Newcastle Legend Paul Gascoigne, with news breaking that early Friday morning he had to be sectioned and put on an emergency detox programme, this followed his latest alcohol binge.

At around 3am yesterday, police were summoned to Gazza’s house in Poole (Dorset), this came after medics had already attended  the day before, when after carrying out an assessment  they considered his condition stable.

Sadly the former United player’s condition worsened, with close friend and former Spurs teammate Gary Mabbutt confirming what happened next;

“Paul has been detained for his best interests, he’s had a relapse and has not been well for a couple of weeks now.

“The best available support is being given to Paul and hopefully he can get on the road to recovery.”

This latest episode comes only two months after Gazza was admitted to Poole hospital and treated for four days after a previous binge.

Gazza’s agent confirmed that he ‘is not very well’ and Spurs released a short statement saying;

“We are aware of the situation with Paul and continue to offer our support.”

A desperately sad situation for somebody who brought so much joy and smiles into people’s lives.

It is ironic of course that his two former clubs meet this same weekend as Paul Gascoigne fights his battle in a hospital on the south coast.

In other circumstances Gazza could have been at White Hart Lane tomorrow as guest of honour, taking the adulation from both sets of fans and being the centre of attention for all the right reasons.

As always, we wish Paul Gascoigne the very best in battling his demons.
