Rising Newcastle Star Helps England To Three Goal Win

Newcastle and England’s Freddie Woodman had a comfortable afternoon in Luxembourg earlier today.

England Under 19s began their European Championship qualifying campaign with a three goal victory over Belarus.

A bystander for most of the game, Woodman showed his quality when he made a great save early on.

With the score goalless, Yauheni Shauchenka hit a tremendous long range shot which Freddie Woodman did equally well to turn over the bar.

From that point though it was all England as they dominated, with Chelsea’s Roben Loftus-Cheek scoring the opener after half an hour.

Patrick Roberts of Fulham made it two just after half-time, while Boro’s Bradley Fewster scored the third from the penalty spot.

It could have been more but a clean sheet for Woodman and three goals for England was a good start to the qualifying campaign.

Woodman and England next face Luxembourg on Sunday then Belgium on the following Wednesday.

The top two nations from this group will then progress to the final round of qualifying in spring 2015.

England: Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United –  currently on loan at Hartlepool United), Smith-Brown (Manchester City), Aina (Chelsea), Galloway (Everton), Chilwell (Leicester), Dele Alli (MK Dons), Morris (Middlesbrough), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), Patrick Roberts (Fulham), Brown (Chelsea), Barker (Manchester City).

Subs: Fewster (Middlesbrough) for Brown (56), Winks (Tottenham Hotspur) for Alli (73), Colkett (Chelsea) for Loftus-Cheek (78)
