Pardew Says Ashley Asked How He Could Support Him – 2 Strikers and A Centre-Back?
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says he is grateful for the levels of backing he has had from both owner Mike Ashley and Managing Director Lee Charnley.
Pardew saying that during this latest run of poor results and performances, the owner has asked ‘How can we support you?’
Instead of, a journeyman ‘bargain’ French striker and we’ll stick with the three centre-backs who played in the Championship the last time (Colo and Taylor also in the team relegated), thank you very much!
“Mike (Ashley) has tried to support me in this last period as much as he can.
“I spoke to both him and the chief executive, the message is very much ‘How can we support you?’
“I would not expect any different even if they were thinking different privately. They’ve been solid and I appreciate that.”
Arrogance? Surely not.
“It’s getting lost in the wash a little bit that I’m still here out of arrogance or because Mike’s being stubborn about it to annoy people.
“We’re not. We’re just trying to get what is right for the team because it’s obvious it hasn’t been functioning very well.
“There have been some harsh words on the training ground. My message to the players is we need a bit more.”
