Nile Ranger backs convicted rapist Ched Evans

Nile Ranger proves once again that he has as much brain power as class.

The (thankfully) former Newcastle United player now coming out in support of convicted rapist Ched Evans.

Evans was convicted of rape and given a five year prison sentence for assaulting a nineteen year old girl, whilst he was playing for Sheffield United.

Released on Friday from prison, there has been much debate as to whether somebody who has committed such a crime should be allowed back into such a public arena as professional football.

While the arguments are fair, on both sides, as to whether somebody should be allowed to earn a living in their normal trade, whether they are a professional football or a plumber/shop assistant or banker.

It still doesn’t excuse Nile Ranger’s typically clueless/classless response to Evans’ release from prison.

The player (who is currently struggling to get a game for relegation doomed Blackpool) putting the following message on Twitter;

“Ched Evans top player…I hope he gets to play again!”

Nile Ranger’s classless chirpy message would make you think that Evans is coming back to football after a few years away with a bad injury, not after committing such a serious offence.

As somebody who has gone through a rape trial himself (and been cleared), as well as all kinds of court appearances and convictions for other offences, surely even somebody as thick and as crass as Nile Ranger should approach something like this with extreme caution.

If Ranger is a big mate of Ched Evans then he should get in touch with him and give him his personal support, not make such a classless big show of it on social media.

If Ranger has no association at all with Evans then his message of support is simply nauseating.

I bet even Ched Evans is wishing Nile Ranger would leave him alone…
