Newcastle’s Young Star Leads France Youth Into Euro Qualification

Newcastle fans are yet to see anything of Olivier Kemen at senior level but the 18 year old is progressing through the youth levels for his country.

Having been part of the Under 17s set-up, the Newcastle midfielder has now progressed to Under 19s level and is now featuring in the European Championship Qualifying.

Olivier Kemen was handed the Captain’s armband in France’s first group match, with the United player leading his country to a 2-1 win over Macedonia.

The Newcastle midfielder followed that up with an excellent long range effort to score France’s second goal of the six they put past Liechtenstein without reply on Friday afternoon.

Olivier Kemen and his teammates have now qualified for the next stage of qualification as the two two from each four team group progress and with six points already, the worst they can do is finish second. Their final group match is against second placed Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday, only needing a point to finish top of the group.

The next stage is in Spring 2015 and Kemen’s [intlink id=”48694″ type=”post”]Newcastle teammate Freddie Woodman [/intlink]will be hoping to join him in that next stage after keeping a clean sheet as England defeated Belarus 3-0 in their opening game.

Good to see Newcastle’s young players getting international recognition but especially so when given the Captain’s armband, something which marks them out as having a little bit extra in their character, Woodman also having captained England at youth level.
