Newcastle United have seen their plans approved to redevelop the training ground at Benton.

Last November United announced their intention to make improvements and now the submitted plans have received unanimous approval from North Tyneside Council’s planning committee.

The changes will see the existing training centre building demolished and replaced by a bigger facility.

The new building will house a swimming pool, specialist medical equipment and a fitness pool, as well as rehabilitation, medical, leisure & catering facilities.

The club’s current training hall will remain but the current fitness/gym facilities will be replaced as well as improved admin and media facilities, plus a presentation suite for match analysis.

At the time they announced the plans late last year, the statement was put out in Joe Kinnear’s name which included the following quote;

“We have one of football’s great stadiums and we are delighted to now be announcing plans for a training complex which will rival any in Europe.”
