Newcastle United player bonus scheme confirmed for this season
Last year’s Newcastle United player bonus scheme attracted much attention last season, once it was revealed that the squad would receive a bonus if they finished in the top ten.
Many fans believing that rewarding players for finishing mid-table was a case of rewarding mediocrity, though it was also claimed that they would have received a bigger bonus if they’d finished higher than that eventual tenth place in the Premier League.
The Independent have now reported that they have information which shows that last year’s bonus scheme was brought in, after agreement was reached between club and players to scrap the existing pension and private health arrangements, replaced by the bonus arrangement.
Whether the club will need to blow the dust off this year’s bonus scheme agreement over the course of the next eight months remains to be seen.
However, the Independent have also confirmed that once again, a top ten finish will trigger bonus payment to the all staff, from admin assistants right up to board level, as well as playing/coaching staff.
Not wanting to demoralise the behind the scenes staff too much at St.James’ Park, but maybe it is best if they think twice, before they put down a deposit just yet for an exotic end of the season holiday.
