Four wins out of four for surprise player helps transform Newcastle’s season
Can you name the Newcastle player who has started four first team matches this season and won them all….you may be surprised to learn that Steven Taylor has achieved this feat.
After two wins in the League Cup away at Gillingham and Crystal Palace, Taylor has then seized his chance in the Premier League with both hands, consecutive wins against Leicester and Tottenham dragging United out of the relegation zone.
While he gives it everything, I have never been a fan of Mike Williamson. Clearly not Premier League ability, his lack of composure when in possession surely can’t do either he or his teammates any good when it comes to confidence.

In contrast, Taylor is full of confidence, even though many United fans perceive this as arrogance.
What isn’t in dispute is that in that 2011/12 season when Newcastle finished fifth, the season was built on the early foundations of a rock solid defence with Coloccini and Taylor at the heart of it, until serious injury struck.
Taylor never really recovered from that blow but is now surely showing that he and Coloccini are the only choice at centre-back if fit.
If he returns and makes it five in five wins with victory against Liverpool, then even his fiercest critics may be thinking again.
