Coloccini Claims Newcastle Are A ‘Tight Group’ – Shame It’s Not A Tight Defence

Fabricio Coloccini has claimed that despite all the negativity surrounding Newcastle United at the minute, the players remain ‘a tight group’.

The obvious joke for me is that it’s a shame that they aren’t a tight defence…

While a chronic lack of goals was grabbing the headlines before Papiss Cisse’s very recent intervention, the story in defence has managed to largely escape the headline writers.

Newcastle had one of the six worst defences in the Premier League last season and in the last fifteen league games, [intlink id=”48558″ type=”post”]United have conceded two or more goals in eleven of those fifteen matches[/intlink]. In the process conceding a massive thirty three goals in those fifteen games.

Coloccini speaking to the Shields Gazette;

“We have a tight group and we are staying positive.”

“It is a difficult time for us but we have confidence in this group and the manager.

“We have to improve and look forward.”

As always, actions speak louder than words.

It is all very well saying the players are a tight bunch and they have confidence in Alan Pardew, but if they then go out in matches and continue to fall apart, in defence especially, then how can anybody be convinced that the players are good enough or sticking together?
