Blow for Newcastle United as new injury to striker revealed

Latest news today is that Newcastle striker Emmanuel Riviere could miss Saturday’s match with Leicester after picking up a knock in training.

Many Newcastle fans may well wonder what miss will the French striker be anyway, considering he hasn’t scored a single Premier League goal and his performances overall have been totally ineffective.

However, it does raise massive questions if Riviere is unavailable AND Papiss Cisse isn’t in a position to start the Leicester match.

Alan Pardew has admitted that he really shouldn’t have played Cisse in his comeback as a sub against Hull City, as he wasn’t fully fit.

Since then the Senegal forward has only started against Swansea and being sub when Newcastle lost at Stoke.

So two matches for Senegal within a few days and extensive traveling which means he wasn’t back on Tyneside until today, must raise serious questions as to whether he will be fit enough to kick-off against Leicester.

No matter how upbeat Alan Pardew was yesterday about his striker who has added much needed goals;

“He looks rejuvenated, I said after the Swansea game that you can see there is a bit more enthusiasm in him, maybe because he is injury free. Perhaps feels a bit more free.

“The two goals at Swansea were quality, particularly the first one and it is that quality we have been missing.”

If both Riviere and Cisse miss, then United will have to cobble something together from players such as Gouffran, Armstrong, Ferreyra and Perez.

Not what you need with no wins in seven and stuck in the relegation zone.
