Alan Pardew confesses to hiding Ryan Taylor

Alan Pardew has explained why he had to ‘hide’ Ryan Taylor on Wednesday night.

The Newcastle manager was responding to a question as to whether it was a gamble playing Ryan Taylor against Manchester City with only a few practice matches since his injury over two years ago.

The United boss replying that he was happy with his conditioning but that having used all three substitutes already, he had to ‘hide’ Ryan Taylor in the midfield as he started to tire towards the end.

While he was happy to pay Taylor, Alan Pardew did admit that he shouldn’t have played Rolando Aarons, having confessed he played him against expert advice.

It was a strange decision to take such a risk after nearly two months out and not even a reserve team outing. Especially strange when you look at the players such as Cabella and Gouffran who were unused on the United bench – again, why take such an unnecessary risk?

Hiding Ryan Taylor;

“We had to move him into midfield and hide him a bit near the end.

“No, I was OK with his conditioning, though sometimes the adrenalin of the game can take so much energy out of your system.

“That worried me a little bit but he was fine, though he had a bit of cramp towards the end.”Rolando Aarons shouldn’t have featured;

“Rolando, really and truly, shouldn’t have featured. That was a bigger gamble than Ryan Taylor and that paid off for him.

“So he’s in a good space and ready to go for Saturday.”
