37 Worrying Reasons If Tim Krul Is Ruled Out
Newcastle United could be having to rely on Rob Elliot if the injury to Tim Krul rules him out.
After a scan the club have confirmed that [intlink id=”48864″ type=”post”]Krul has ligament damage to his elbow[/intlink] but claim they don’t know to what extent it is damaged.
Whether it proves a short or long-term absence, ligament damage to the elbow will surely see a goalkeeper miss at least some matches and with four matches within a fourteen day period coming up, Rob Elliot is surely due for a return to the first team.
I have serious concerns. We went from having the ever reliable Steve Harper and future England £10m keeper Fraser Forster, to somebody seemingly recruited simply on the back of Alan Pardew and Andy Woodman’s Charlton connection.
These are the matches Rob Elliot has played in the Premier League and domestic Cups for Newcastle United (the opposition goals first, then Newcastle’s);
4-0 Manchester United (H)
4-0 Southampton (A)
1-2 QPR (A)
0-0 West Ham (A)
6-0 Liverpool (H)
1-1 West Brom (A)
4-0 Manchester City (H)
2-1 Wigan (A)
1-2 Stoke (H)
1-0 Swansea (A)
2-4 Southampton (H)
2-3 Crystal Palace (League Cup)
2-1 Cardiff (FA Cup)
0-2 Morecambe (League Cup)
2-1 Manchester United (League Cup)
2-0 Brighton (FA Cup)
3-4 Notts Forest (League Cup)
So basically Rob Elliot has conceded 26 goals in 11 Premier League matches, 11 in the last 6 domestic cup games, making it 37 in 17 games in ENglish League & Cup competitions (he has also played a handful of Europa League games fro United).
When you have a team like [intlink id=”48558″ type=”post”]Newcastle who are conceding goals for fun already [/intlink], with 33 conceded in the last 15 Premier League matches.
Putting in a much inferior keeper brings me out in a cold sweat.
If as expected Tim Krul is going to be ruled out, then from this Saturday it is even more essential that the whole team at last steps up and confronts the serious defensive issues.
