Video Special – Remy Cabella Shows Star Quality For France

On his first start for France, Remy Cabella showed Newcastle fans just what could be possible if he is given the chance to flourish at St.James’ Park.

Watch these highlights of France’s draw with Serbia and you will see a completely different player to what we have seen so far at Newcastle United.

Arguably France’s best player as they drew 1-1 away with Serbia, Cabella’s movement, and particularly his link-up play with lone striker Loic Remy, is eye-catching.

As you will see, Cabella makes his first international mark with a whipped in corner which leaves Paul Pogba with an easy finish at the far post.

Then after half-time, Remy Cabella almost puts the game to bed as he was at the heart of the fluid attacking play.

With a freedom to get forward, his shot from the edge of the goal is brilliantly saved by the Serbian keeper, after Cabella arrives late to take advantage of Loic Remy occupying several defenders.

The Newcastle midfielder then shows great invention by selling a great dummy which allows him to run into space and Loic Remy almost finishes what would have been a brilliant one-two.

Before making way as one of a number of substitutions just after the hour mark, Cabella surges forward and is picked out by Loic Remy with a quick ball into his stride. Cabella’s trickery puts the defender off balance and is only let down by a weak finish as he doesn’t catch his shot right.

Let’s hope Remy Cabella brings this confidence home with him for Southampton on Saturday.

The big worry of course is that the level of skill and mobility Cabella enjoyed with France (Sissoko, Loic Remy and Cabaye all featuring in the front six along with Pogba and Schneiderlin) last night, will not be matched sadly by his Newcastle teammates.

What is clear to me though is that Cabella has to play in a free role behind the main striker at Newcastle and let’s hope Emmanuel Riviere can rise to the task.

For all his faults though, when watching these highlights I couldn’t help thinking just how potentially exciting it could have been if Loic Remy had been paired with Remy Cabella at Newcastle.
