United Star Believes ‘Majority’ Of Newcastle Fans Were Fantastic Against Hull

United have wheeled out Mike Williamson to talk about the Hull match, the season so far and the Newcastle fans.

While he is clearly a canny bloke I do think Williamson has shown his naivety by talking about the ‘majority’ of fans being fantastic on Saturday when Hull visited.

So obviously we can take it that the player thinks some supporters weren’t fantastic and by that, I take it he means those making it abundantly clear they want Alan Pardew out.

At Southampton, when there was no organised protest, Pardew was given plenty grief then by a lot of fans, not helped by the circus the supporters had to watch that afternoon, with Williamson himself taking a leading role.

Fans prepared to travel to the south coast and back, are ‘fantastic’ whether they choose to give grief or not.

Similarly, all the fans who paid their money against Hull are worthy of respect from the players whose wages they pay.

If the majority of fans were fantastic against Hull then it is just a shame a majority of the players weren’t, with only Tiote and Cisse deserving of that description, while Williamson and others at the back continued their dismal form.

“It was a tough afternoon, to go two down when there was a lot of expectation was tough but we showed our character, resilience and what it meant to the lads to come back.

“I think people will make their own minds up about this squad but I think we showed the togetherness which exists within the squad to get a result.

“The majority of fans were fantastic on Saturday, there was a lot of speculation about certain things but the fans got behind us in those first 20 minutes and it helped a lot.

“It is hard to say things like that don’t affect you at all, it does bring a lot of pressure. The expectation of the atmosphere was worse than what it actually was because I think a lot of fans showed their true colours and got behind us – it was nice to see.

“Manchester City first game our display was good but we lost.

“At Villa we could have quite easily won as we had the chances, then Palace we were 3-2 up so you’d expect to hold on. At Southampton we had a tough and unacceptable afternoon, we needed to put things right and I felt we did that against Hull.

“I think our luck changes soon and we will get that win which we need.

“You want to put it behind you and bounce back and I think, after a tough week, we did do that against Hull on the back of a really tough week. We showed a lot of character.”
