Latest Alan Pardew Classic – Claims Newcastle Have Had Great Success Buying Players Early

We get used to a lot of the rubbish Alan Pardew talks but his latest is a cracker…it’s the way he tells them.

Asked if he was pleased with the club’s overall transfer business in the window just closed, the Newcastle manager has talked of the club having been very ‘thorough’ and that they worked hard on them in terms of the ‘commercial side’, whatever that means. Is he meaning how much they cost, or is he just making some new angle up?

However, something that definitely doesn’t ring true, is that Alan Pardew has bigged up this summer’s transfer activity by stating that Newcastle have had most past success with players they bring in early and give time to before they have to play etc.

Well we haven’t signed many/any players for quite a while before this summer window, but just have a look at the following;

Loic Remy arrived at the last minute while injured, missing the opening games and had no pre-season with NUFC, yet was our goals saviour last season.

Papiss Cisse arrived in January and went straight from African Nations action to Premier League.

Debuchy, Gouffran, Haidara, Mapou and Sissoko were all bought in January 2013 and certainly the three of the five who were chucked straight in would claim to have been successes by Pardew as they were constantly in the first team from day one.

I suppose Bigirimana and Amalfitano were brought in early in summer 2012….

The only players I can see who were big successes and had been given time to settle in while Pardew has been manager, were Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye, though it does help that they are quality players. By the same token though, Sylvain Marveuax was brought in that same month as those two, June 2011, and has been another disaster under Alan Pardew’s management.

Here is the question that was asked today, followed by Alan Pardew’s answer;

‘Were you pleased with your business in the window overall?’

“We have always found that the players you do early, then percentage wise they give us more success.

“There’s players that we have been thorough with and players we have worked hard on in terms of the commercial side as well.

“So those early signings were very important to us.”
