St James Park Rated Ahead Of Bramall Lane But Behind Old Wembley
Picking your favourite away grounds is a popular pub conversation and it’s always a good feeling when fans of other clubs rate visits to St James Park so highly.
Former Bolton and England (20 minutes against Montenegro…) star Kevin Davies was asked to choose the ten best stadiums he has enjoyed playing in during his career.
Writing for the Football League focus website, Davies picked the following ten, and in reverse order…
10. BMO Field (Toronto FC)
9. Goodison Park (Everton)
8. Old Trafford (Manchester United)
7. The Old Dell (Southampton)
6. Allianz Arena (Bayern Munich)
5. Anfield (Liverpool)
4. Bramall Lane (Sheffield United)
3. St James’ Park (Newcastle Upon Tyne)
2. Stade Velodrome, Marseille
1. The Old Wembley
Bramall Lane at number four is a slight cheat, as Kevin Davies is a Blades fan from being a kid.
As for Newcastle United and St James Park, Kevin Davies had this to say;
“I have always loved going up to the North East, and St James Park has changed and developed over the years.
“I love the way the people are up there; they are fanatical about their football.
“They have even applauded some of my goals up there, which shows how much they appreciate seeing good football – not many home fans are willing to clap an opposition goal.
“It is so loud in there and the fans really get behind their team in a passionate way.”
Nice words to hear but not sure I can remember clapping any Kevin Davies goals or appreciating the lovely football Sam Allardyce’s Bolton played…..
