After the final whistle, Alan Pardew thanked the fans but acknowledged that he wasn’t ‘stupid enough’ to think their support for the team on Saturday was because they love or support the manager.

Rather, Pardew pointed to a love of the club that meant supporters helped the team to claw back a draw against Hull after going two down.

The United boss choosing to believe that many fans took a ‘neutral stance’ after the fractious build-up to yesterday’s match;

“A bonus was the fans and I want to thank them for that.

“There has been some radical reporting and stuff said about this and that

“I think they took a neutral stance today.

“I’m not stupid enough to think they love me or support me, but they showed love for their club and were sitting and waiting to see what they got delivered, and I think we delivered a good performance today.”
