Newcastle and Sunderland Doing Well In Red Card Premier League Table

In the modern era one thing I have never thought of Newcastle United, is that they have been a dirty team through the seasons, but a new red card Premier League table was an eye opener.

Responding to a question on the Sky Sports website, Martin Tyler has compiled the red card Premier League table over the last 18 years.

Tyler was asked how many players have been sent off at Arsenal since Arsene Wenger’s appointment in October 1996.

The answer was 67 in the Premier League (a shocking 103 in all competitions).

Sharing second place are Everton and Blackburn on 64, which in reality makes Rovers come out the worst really, considering the fact they have played four less Premier League seasons than either Everton or Arsenal.

Then a surprise to me in fourth was to see Newcastle United some way ahead of the rest, especially when United also had a one season rest in the Championship.

The Mackems come a credible seventh, which is again a bit of an achievement when you take into account their yo-yo existence between the top two divisions.

No surprise however to see the likes of Man U and Liverpool on such a relatively low total, they being the two clubs that definitely get an easy ride off referees overall.

1. Arsenal (67)

2. Blackburn / Everton (64)

4. Newcastle (62)

5. Chelsea (55)

6. Tottenham (51)

7. Sunderland (50)

8. West Ham (48)

9. Man City (46)

10. Manchester United / Liverpool (44)
