Newcastle Keeper Captains England But Can’t Prevent Win For Italy
Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman Captained England over in Italy today but the Under18s lost 2-0 despite dominating the first half.
The young England eleven started well and proceeded to take the game to their hosts all first half.
Before a crowd of around two thousand at the Stadio Giovanni Chiggiato in Caorle, Italy came out a different side and soon took charge.
On the 56th minute Edera gave the hosts the lead and two minutes later it was all over as Minelli scored the second, Woodman having no chance with either.
England briefly promised to get back into it but it was Italy who ended up well on top, with only Newcastle’s Woodman ensuring it stayed at two with some smart saves.
With four minutes left, the Newcastle keeper made way so Shrewsbury’s harry Lewis could make his international duty.
Not every day you Captain your country but a win would have made it taste all the sweeter.
