Mike Williamson ‘We Have Got The Quality To Beat Anyone’

Mike Williamson believes that Newcastle ‘Have got the quality to beat anyone’, despite failing to win any of the three Premier League matches so far.

The Newcastle defender also believes that there were positives to come out of the Crystal Palace fiasco, with Alan Pardew dissecting what went wrong and right, before the trip to Southampton.

Williamson also claims that Newcastle showed character and resilience after going behind twice against Palace, with Southampton looking a much tougher proposition then the writing will be on the wall if United go behind on Saturday.

With last season’s embarrassing four goal annihilation (could have been far worse if Southampton had taken half their chances) still fresh in the minds of Newcastle fans as well as Mike Williamson.

Mike Williamson talking to the Northern Echo;

“Every week is an opportunity.

“We believe we’ve got the quality in the squad to beat anyone on our day.

“Last year it (Southampton 4 Newcastle 0) was disappointing.

“It is a new look Southampton and I speak to Fraser (Forster) a lot, he says they have a good group of lads and I have seen them a few times – they look strong.

“They have got a lot of quality and it will be difficult but we will go there and look to get a win.

“They (Palace) were disciplined and worked hard, we were caught cold twice but showed character and resilience.

“You can’t take the spirit and togetherness of the lads away, we fell behind twice, but we had the physicality to match them – there were positives.

“He (Alan Pardew) will go away and dissect everything we did wrong and everything we did right.”

A [intlink id=”47078″ type=”post”]sell-out Newcastle away allocation saw a few extra go on sale yesterday[/intlink] for the trip to Southampton and no matter how much the likes of Williamson and his manager talk of taking positives, another performance similar to last season’s will leave Pardew and his players under extreme pressure.
