Mike Ashley Makes Public Statement Ruling Himself Out Of Rangers Share Issue
In a surprise move, Mike Ashley has made a statement to the stock exchange in connection with the Rangers share offer.
Initial speculation was that the Newcastle owner could underwrite this latest share offer by the Glasgow club.
While in recent days there has been speculation that Ashley was using Rangers’ desperate financial position to put pressure on the Scottish FA, who could give him special dispensation to own more than the 10% which is allowed, taking into consideration his current ownership of Newcastle United.
The brief statement to the stock exchange read;
“I will not be participating in the open offer which closes at 11am today, Friday September 12, 2014.”
That deadline has now of course passed and all eyes will be on both Rangers and Mike Ashley to see what the next move may be.
Some parts of the media had ran with stories this week that [intlink id=”47181″ type=”post”]suggested Ashley wanted to sell Newcastle[/intlink], thus allowing him to be able to take over Rangers.
