Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been unveiled to the Italian press and told them he is in great shape physically and ready to play as soon as he is needed.

Something which is slightly surprising seen as Alan Pardew reported a knock was preventing the defender even being on the bench in Newcastle’s opening matches.

When asked to describe himself, Mapou again reiterated he was fit enough to play, then added that he was a centre-back.

Something else the Newcastle manager appeared to have trouble understanding…

What can you add to Roma?

“I am very happy to be here, to be competitive and to be an extra help. The coach knows me already, he knows that I can be important.”

Your Newcastle experience?

“It didn’t go well in England.

“They don’t look at things in the same way, everything is more physical.

“I think things are different here, you play with the ball more. The Italian league is a lot more similar to the French league.”

How ready are you physically and when will you be available?

“I’m in good shape physically. We’ve got a few days to prepare ourselves, I just have to work hard so that I can be picked in the next game.”

Your first impressions of Garcia?

“I already knew him, he convinced me to come here. He wants to win the league and I am also hungry to win.

“The coach already knows me from when I played in France, he knows my abilities. I will try to give my all to win a place in the team.”

Describe Yourself?

“I’m available to the team. It’s a super team and we’ll do everything to achieve our aims. My natural position is as a centre back.”
