What Happened When I Spoke To John Anderson On Radio Newcastle
Yesterday, some of you may have read [intlink id=”47542″ type=”post”]an article I wrote about former Newcastle player John Anderson[/intlink].
It was following a few comments made by John that I heard on the Radio Newcastle Total Sport tea time phone-in show a few days ago.
My article provoked a fair amount of comments on here, some doubting me, some agreeing with me, there were also some comments where fellow fans ended up having a go at each other which was a little unnecessary.
I did email Total Sport and put them in the picture, I felt it was only fair given that the article was about one of their presenters.

Last night on the Total Sport show my email was discussed and the article was looked at by the presenters, John Anderson was rightly quite annoyed and refuted everything that I said, they then challenged the “author” to speak directly to them and not hide behind a keyboard.
To that end I immediately rang the show and was put straight on air (apologies to those in the queue).
I then debated that and a few other bits with John, Simon (Pryde) and Marco (Gabbiadini), I put my points over politely and fairly, and John likewise made his!
The upshot was that it was all about interpretation and I could not argue with that, one or two things I said in my article may have been too harsh and I accept that also.
John made the point that Newcastle need 3 points on Saturday and that protesting for 90 minutes will do little for the team, I have to agree with that point, but I did point out that 3 points on Saturday will not save Alan Pardew, it will only delay the inevitable.
There were other points discussed and I think we agreed on most, but I maintain that as a fan who puts money into the club coffers I am entitled to make a protest against the current regime!
John did point out that any protest won’t have any affect on removing the owner, only someone with mega cash will shift him, totally agree.
At the end of the day it was good to speak to John directly, and debate the points, I felt I made mine politely and they were received fairly, and equally I took on board John’s points, and those of Simon and Marco Gabbiadini who spoke fairly also.
I got a little bit of positive online feedback, and one such comment was from someone who fundamentally disagreed with me, which was nice, and I have always maintained I respect and hopefully listen to anyone’s opinion whether I agree or not.
I hate the fact that we as Newcastle fans are infighting over the owners, our support has always been magnificent, there is not another club in the world that would get and maintain our level of support, despite perpetual failure, I don’t think any of us want to be Man Utd or Man City, but just to compete would be enough and keep us all on the same side?
So we move on to Saturday, and of course I want 3 points, I want to see Remy Cabella taking on and beating men for fun, I want to see Sissoko be the powerhouse driving midfielder that he should be, I want Rivière to bang one in from anywhere etc etc, but overall I want to sat here in 12 months time being proved totally wrong and eating humble pie……but…..
Keep the faith.
