Alan Pardew ‘I Signed A Long Contract For Good and Bad’

Alan Pardew has said that he never asked Mike Ashley for any reassurances when they spoke after the Southampton match.

However, ominously for anybody hoping for a change of manager, Pardew added that he signed a long contract at St.James’ Park ‘for good and bad’.

The Newcastle manager also admitted that Ashley was very upset but he says that when you own the club then you have every right to be upset after what went on at Southampton.

Alan Pardew speaking today;

“I’ve spoken to Mike and we had a long conversation on Sunday.

“It never really came up (Pardew’s job) if I’m honest and if that sounds like I’m trying to fudge the issue then I’m not.

“We talked about the team, we talked about a couple of things that were a problem within the team and also about the performance.

“Obviously he was upset about the performance which he has a right to, as he’s the owner…and he reflected that to me.

“The one thing we both agreed on was we really needed to focus on this Saturday and try to get a win for this football club and I think that is very important.

“Certain issues, particularly this issue regarding me, has to somewhat take a bit of a back seat in terms of for the team.

“Because it is going to be a difficult environment if we have the atmosphere we had at Southampton for long periods.

“I never asked for any reassurances.

“All I do know is that I signed a long contract here, for good and bad.

“And we’ve had some great times which seem to have been forgotten recently.

“And we have had some tough days…and this (Hull) is going to be one of the toughest.

“I can think of some tough games I’ve had as manager here but the environment for the players will be as tough as it has ever been.

“We have to accept that and know that Hull are going to come and make good use of our situation.”
