Alan Pardew Set To Overtake Sam Allardyce in The Sack Race

Following Newcastle United and West Ham’s tour of New Zealand in the pre-season, the Hammers looked in disarray and Sam Allardyce became the odds on favourite to be sacked first, with Alan Pardew looking relatively safe at 12/1.

However, after being backed by his board with credible new signings and with signs of a better style of football and promise of potentially results to follow, Allardyce has eased out to 2/1 favourite.

In contrast, Newcastle have looked toothless up front and creativity badly missing, with Ashley also failing to back his manager with an essential striker and centre-back (for starters).

The impact of all this and poor results means Pardew is now on the verge of overtaking Fat Sam in the sack race betting.

Interesting as well to see what has happened to Ronald Koeman and Southampton.

After wholesale departures the Saints looked to be in danger of collapsing and Koeman was one of the favourites at 10/1 to be the first sacked.

However, substantial investment in the team and a refusal to sell any more star players has helped stabilise Southampton and they are back playing some good football and getting results, with the knock-on effect of their manager now long odds of 66/1 to be the first to go.

Newcastle of course visit Southampton in the next Premier League fixtures and a defeat for United would almost certainly see Alan Pardew top of the tree…
