Alan Pardew ‘We Have An Outstanding Midfield’

7 years ago

Alan Pardew has claimed that Newcastle United have got an ‘Outstanding midfield’.

However, the Newcastle manager has also stated that both his midfield and defenders need to score more goals.

In an attempt to relieve the pressure on his goal-free strikers so far this season, Pardew has said ‘Everybody talks about our lack of strikers but we need to get goals from midfield and our defenders’.

The problem comes though when you look at the records of Colback, Tiote, Sissoko, Anita – none of them has a goalscoring pedigree.

Only Remy Cabella and (the long-term injury) Siem De Jong have any goals record in the past, both of those in far weaker leagues than the English Premier League.

Added to this, the one bright spot in an attacking sense, Rolando Aaron, has now picked up a hamstring injury and misses Southampton – no news yet as to how serious it is.

Alan Pardew;

“I think it is always important to go into an international break with a win, because it gives a good feeling to the players as they leave to go to their relevant countries.

“So that was disappointing.

“I just feel that we are in a strong team, we have an outstanding midfield line that needs to contribute goals.

“Everybody talks about our lack of strikers but we need to get goals from midfield and our defenders. The big bonus of last week was Williamson scoring, as a six foot four centre-half – his first goal in five years or whatever it was – there’s always small mercies.”
